The Geospatial Survey Association was awarded the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) Institution Medal at the CICES Annual Dinner in Bristol on Friday 25 September 2026.
The medal was presented by outgoing CICES President Alex Pearsall to GSA President Claire Fenwick and Vice-President Glenn Lickman, recognising a relationship between the two organisations that stretches back decades.
Long before much of this work reaches the public eye, people across GSA – formerly TSA (The Survey Association) – and CICES have collaborated through the Survey Liaison Group and across the profession. That work has shared aims: strengthening professional standards, helping clients understand the importance of high-quality geospatial surveying, raising awareness of career pathways, supporting appropriate education and qualifications, and giving the profession a stronger collective voice.

GSA President Claire Fenwick said: “I’m really proud of all the volunteers on Council who go above and beyond as well as the GSA staff who consistently strive to better the Geospatial profession for its members. Thank you so much!”
Receiving the Institution Medal is therefore not simply an award for one moment or one Council. It is recognition of the sustained contribution of many people who have worked, often behind the scenes, to advance our profession.
GSA looks forward to building on longstanding relationships across the profession and wider built environment to promote existing standards, guidance, skills and expertise more effectively.
