Barking Riverside Limited (BRL) has appointed civil engineering specialist Mackley to deliver a £12 million programme of works to enhance the Barking Riverside foreshore.
The largest single infrastructure contract awarded by Barking Riverside to date, the scheme will provide new public infrastructure along the Thames, including improved pedestrian routes, a new riverside terrace, enhanced habitats for local wildlife, and new play spaces.
The contract also covers the delivery of flood defence and drainage infrastructure across Barking Riverside’s river frontage, supporting long-term resilience, protecting the river’s edge and unlocking further land for development.
As master developer, BRL plays a pivotal role in delivering the strategic infrastructure needed to support the long-term growth of Barking Riverside. These foreshore works represent a key step in protecting and enhancing the river edge while enabling future homes and amenities to come forward.
Works are expected to commence in February 2026 and will take approximately 14 months.
The project is enabled by Homes England, with support from L&Q and the Greater London Authority.
